Service in the spotlight - Extended Access

In our last annual report we were delighted that through our Extended Access service we had delivered an extra 26,000 appointments for local patients. We were also delighted with a recent positive report from our CCG Assurance visit, which highlighted the commitment and enthusiasm of the whole team.

You may be interested to hear that our DNA rate is currently a respectable 9% and we are now able to use text message reminders for patients. We have also launched an easy way for patients to give us immediate feedback using ipads in reception.

As well as GPs, Nurses and Healthcare Assistants we have a weekend team of Pharmacists, Physiotherapists and Counsellors.

We are working to try to embed simple pathways that get the right patients into these services first time, freeing up GP time spent on medication reviews, musculo-skeletal issues or low level anxiety and depression. However, we recognise that this isn’t always easy and are open to suggestions – either on how to embed these services, or new ideas.
